Cookie Notice

1. Introduction

This Cookie Notice is prepared by Kahoot! AS (“Kahoot!” or “we“) and contains information about our use of cookies which we use in our products and on our websites. For example, we use cookies to distinguish you from other users of our website, and to provide functionality and a better user experience to you. This Cookie Notice includes details about the types of cookies we use, the purpose of our use of cookies and your rights in connection with our use of cookies.

Your preferences will determine which cookies apply to your use of our websites. Our websites will only use strictly necessary cookies unless you have consented otherwise. Your preferences will continue to apply if you enter a subdomain. This means that if you enter Kahoot.it, after consenting to cookies on create.kahoot.it or play.kahoot.it, your preferences will also apply to your use of kahoot.it. However, if you enter Kahoot.it directly without previously consenting to cookies on create.kahoot.it or play.kahoot.it, Kahoot.it will only use strictly necessary cookies which is why this site does not have a cookie consent pop-up.

2. What are cookies?

A cookie is a small file of letters and numbers that we store on your browser or the hard drive of your computer. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your computer’s hard drive. Pixels, web beacons and other technologies are also used to monitor your use of our website. In this notice, we will refer to all of the aforementioned technologies as “cookies”.

3. Cookies in use

Strictly necessary cookies

These cookies are necessary for the website to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually only set in response to actions made by you which amount to a request for services, such as setting your privacy preferences, logging in or filling in forms. You can set your browser to block or alert you about these cookies, but some parts of the site will not then work. These cookies do not store any personally identifiable information.

Performance cookies

These cookies allow us to count visits and traffic sources so we can measure and improve the performance of our site. They help us to know which pages are the most and least popular and see how visitors move around the site. All information these cookies collect is aggregated and therefore anonymous. If you do not allow these cookies we will not know when you have visited our site, and will not be able to monitor its performance.

Functional cookies

These cookies enable the website to provide enhanced functionality and personalisation. They may be set by us or by third party providers whose services we have added to our pages. If you do not allow these cookies then some or all of these services may not function properly.

4. How you can control your cookies

You have the right to decide whether to reject or accept cookies. Except for the essential cookies that are strictly required for our provision of services to you, cookies are only permitted if you are informed about and have consented to the use of cookies. There are different ways in which you can manage your cookies:

Website cookie preference tool: A cookie banner will appear on your screen the first time when you visit our website, or access the website with a new device, informing you of our use of cookies. The cookie banner includes a link to our cookie settings preference center. In the cookie settings preference center you can choose which cookies you accept or reject. You can always change your cookie settings by clicking the “Cookies preference center” on the bottom of our website, or under “privacy” in your profile settings in the app.

Browser controls:  You may set or amend your web browser controls to accept or refuse cookies. If you choose to reject cookies you may still use our websites. However, your access to some functionality and areas may be restricted or your user experience will be impaired. The means by which you can refuse cookies through your web-browser may vary from browser to browser and you should visit your browser’s help menu for more information.

Do Not Track: Some browsers – like Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari – include the ability to transmit “Do Not Track” or “DNT” signals. Since uniform standards for DNT signals have not yet been adopted our web pages do not currently process or respond to DNT. Kahoot! does take privacy and your right to make choices seriously and we continue to monitor developments around DNT browser technologies and the implementation of a standard.

5. Third party websites and plug-ins

The Services and Websites include social media features, such as social media plug-ins with Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok and Facebook. These features may collect information about your IP-address and which page you are visiting on our Websites, and they may set a cookie to make sure the feature functions properly. Social media features and widgets are either hosted by a third party or hosted directly on our Website. We also maintain presences on social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Any information, communications, or materials you submit to us via a social media platform is done at your own risk without any expectation of privacy. We cannot control the actions of other users of these platforms or the actions of the platforms themselves. Your interactions with those features and platforms are governed by the privacy policies of the companies that provide them.

6. Updates and contact

We may update this Cookie Notice from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to the cookies we use or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. We encourage you to revisit this Cookie Notice regularly to stay informed about our use of cookies and related technologies.

If you have questions regarding our use of cookies or this Cookie Notice, please contact us at privacy@kahoot.com.
